zines are a radical act of community

Zines are one of the most democratic art forms in existence. They started as tools for self-publishing and community storytelling, and that spirit hasn't changed. A zine can be funny, political, deeply personal, or completely abstract - and it can be made with whatever you have around you.

Hadau was born out of a simple belief: that making something by hand (cutting, gluing, folding, writing) can unlock something in you that nothing else quite reaches. Zines opened that door for me, and these workshops exist to open it for you. Whether you've never made art before, or you used to and got out of the habit, this is your invitation back in.

Each workshop follows a theme, but there are no rules about how you respond to it. Prompts and materials are provided to get you started, and there's always space to go your own way. At the end of the session, there's an optional sharing circle to celebrate what everyone made & show off your new love for zines!!

Hi! I’m Ffion, the founder of hadau.

hadau is the dreamchild of my big passion for giving people a voice and getting their perspectives out into the world.

I trained as a photographer, and I always wrestled with one thing: I was trying to give people a voice through my lens. It was their story, but always from my point of view. Quite literally, from behind my camera.

I fell into zines whilst navigating this dilemma. Something clicked in me! Zines are the perfect medium for giving people the space to share their lived experiences, in their own voice, totally authentically.

When you sit at the zine table, your voice, your experiences, your perspectives and your passions is what matters most.

Let’s share our voices and shout about what matters most to us.

What is Hadau?

hadau is pronounced “had I” and is Welsh for seeds; and we’re all about planting seeds of creativity in you!!

Why
zines

Zine-making is a portal to playful freedom!! It’s an accessible art-form where anyone, creative or not, can find their voice without the pressure of perfection.

Who should come?

Our workshops are for everyone - those who love getting creative, are curious to get more creative, or are dipping their toes in for the first time.

What to expect from a hadau workshop?

At our workshops, we turn that black-page anxiety into a zine-making party!

Expect a super accessible, judgement-free space where we provide the prompts, the paper, and the community vibes.

You can follow a prompt or you can follow your intuition. You’ll quickly find that art isn’t just for “artists” it’s for everyone who loves to play. That’s the radical power of zines.

You’ll leave with your very own mini publication and a hunger to make many more zines…
